Best open source CMS - Which one to Go

CMS or in simple words, Content Management Systems are one of the most import key to a large scale business website. You can’t go on a long time by taking a big website without any type of CMS. Content management systems make the life easier by letting us just to worry about adding content to our system while letting the CMS do the rest, for example they will repopulate link structure of your website, rebuild the menus, rebuild the site maps etc.

A CMS can be chosen as best by keeping many features in mind. Such as some CMS can give you much flexibility, like you can add/manage dynamic manus, you can add forms and integrate different modules (forums, ecommerce) in your website and manage everything though the CMS.

Here is a short list of some of the best CMS you can use to manage your websites.

  1. Joomla

Joomla was suppose to be the best CMS in last few years until some more came in field. Joomla is still very powerful, open source, php based. You can install a lot of add-on modules to make your website even more feature rich by having blogs, forums, marketplaces etc. The bad thing about joomla is that it is very difficult for a newbie to understand easily. Also it is not Search engine friendly until we put some modules on it but it is not still 100% seo friendly.

  2. Drupal

Drupal is another big name in CMS list. It is also open source and PHP based and do the same job as joomla do. But it have a lot more features and powerful modules. You can create a blog with drupal, you can create a community site, a forum site or even a combination of all these things.

  3. Wordpress

Wordpress was originally seems to be a personal blog publishing platform but then with its flexibility and availability of a lot of useful plugins it have became today’s best CMS. It is no longer a blogging platform anymore because people are using it more than for building personal blogs. There are wordpress plugins which can do almost any type of job for you. Wordpress is also best for SEO and its auto ping features than any other Content management systems. Themes are yet another powerful feature of wordpress. There are thousands of eye catching and free wordpress themes available as well as paid.

  4. Movabletype

Moveabletype is the same as Wordpress but it is written entirely in Perl. It have same things like wordpress but it does not have as much plugins, themes as wordpress communities do have. MT have another good feature which is static publishing and dynamic publishing. Means you can create your website as static html pages or load it as a dynamic website. Both have their pros and cons regarding to server load.
